MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Harbor Light Yacht Club

August 5, 2008

 

OPENING: Meeting called to order @ 8:05pm. Commodore Joe Gricco welcomed the members and delegates, extended thanks for those who helped set up for the meeting and introduced officers as well as the past and current princesses in attendance.

 

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: All present except Treasurer.

ROLL CALL OF COMMITTEE HEADS/ORGANIZATIONS: All present.

ROLL CALL OF CLUBS: 27 clubs present

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were approved and accepted as published.

 

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: Juice mentioned today was Queen Leanne’s birthday. Everyone sang Happy Birthday and presented her with a cake. Juice announced that Bill 2766 was approved and passed to exempt recreational boaters. Juice thanked Bob Grace for running the DRYL cruise and thanked Mary Jusino and Doc and Bonnie Borgersen for their assistance at the DRYL Poker Run as well as the other clubs and participants that helped make the Poker Run a success. Juice requested help in forming the Honor Guard at the Queen’s Pageant. Juice distributed a letter to support the dress code and requirements for the Queen’s Pageant.

1st Vice President: John Maloney – no report.

2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – Insurance information must be faxed to 610-237-1723 for docking at Von Neida. Boats without insurance documentation will be turned away.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – no report.

Secretary: Rick Patton – no report.


Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – no report.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – no report.

Cruise: Bob Grace – Cruise went well. Two boats dropped out. Bob thanked everyone involved.

Donations – no requests.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgersen – Doc mentioned sweats and tee shirts for sale. He also spoke about an article concerning why men do not go to the doctor. Most common reasons were don’t like the doctor, doesn’t feel sick, lack of insurance, afraid the doctor will find something wrong or don’t have time. Doc stressed the importance of going to the doctor at least once a year for a check up especially as you get older.

Pageant: Toni Nespola – Pageant this weekend. Toni introduced princesses in attendance. Princess buttons are available. Toni is looking for help at the pageant with shuttling people back and forth to the Seaport Museum. Toni mentioned that aspiring club princesses are encouraged to join in pageant activities to see first hand the excitement involved in a pageant. She said sell, sell, and sell raffle tickets. Prejudging will be Wednesday, 8/6 at Cannstatters. Itinerary was reviewed. Seaport Museum doors will open to members at 5:30pm. Docking passes required for admittance. Please conduct yourself and all members of your party in a respectful manner. Non-compliance will result in ejection. Juice reviewed the pageant docking information and packets were distributed.

Picnic: Joe Gricco – September 6th at Riverside YC. Tickets were printed with the wrong date. Theme is “It’s a Pirates Life for Me.” Docking and insurance information must be turned in by the end of this week. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – Reiterated about Bill 2766 being passed. Thanks to all that worked to make this happen despite hiccups along the way. Bill mentioned an article about changes on the river that a concern outside parties dumping dredging materials coming from New York and fear developers are possibly looking to build on dumpsite. Bill is trying to get newspaper columnist to do regular article on DRYL.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – Annual Poker Run was held on July 26th. There were 340 participants. Rosie Restuccia who had 4 nines and a Jack and received $2164 won first prize. Second prize was $1100; third prize was $550; and fourth and fifth place winners received $275 each. Fred thanked Juice and everyone involved in making the Poker Run a success.

Safe Boating: Frank Gilbert – Frank said to look at articles in periodicals that come out. Lots of good information out there. Frank handed out articles on the drop in the number of boating fatalities. The trend is downward over the last 30 years in part due to education, awareness and organizations involved as well as the fact that life jackets are being worn. Alcohol is the leading factor in boating accidents that lead to fatalities. Another article about how to use May Day distress calls and how to register your numbers (available through Boat US.) and an article about how to be buried at sea.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report.

Webmaster: Paul Jusino/Ben Lewitt – no report.

Yearbook: Denise Leo – no report.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – no report.

CBYCA: Bob Williams – Next week US Representative, Joe Pitts, will be meeting with US Regulations Commission. Bob will be attending.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – no report.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – no report.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Garwood – Next meeting will be in September at Anchor YC. Schedule in on website.

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Checkbook opening balance $16,688.06. Mike Kovacs reported income of $1,846 while Joe Campbell reported disbursements of $5,969.21 resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $12,564.85. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.
